A type of box that is very popular is the radio patcher. This device has a lot of inputs and outputs, say eight of each. Controls on the box electrically switch inputs to various outputs, so you don't have to fish around for the radio cables to change your system configuration. A particularly intriguing feature is that a configuration can be assigned a program number, so that the patch can be controlled over the radio line.
